Benefits of Invisalign Aligners
You’ve probably heard of Invisalign clear aligners. It is the newest most cutting edge technology in the world of braces. This amazing technology has made it possible for adults as well as children to get braces, without suffering the embarrassment of having a metal mouth. In fact, the technology is so impressive that it has increased the demand for adult braces almost tenfold.
Invisalign Means No Braces
Say goodbye to the old metal mouth, and the unpleasing look of metallic brackets and wires. The Invisalign technology has replaced all that with aligners, which are plastic invisible molds that are placed on your teeth, and apply pressure to specific areas in order to move them.
Invisalign Aligners are Removable
Dr. Taher Dhoon says that the greatest benefit of Invisalign aligners is the removability. Nothing is attached to your teeth, which means you could remove the aligners any time you want. This helps in a couple of ways:
First: It makes the cleaning and brushing process (which was a nightmare with normal braces) very easy, improving dental health.
Second: It saves you from the embarrassment of having to take your graduation photos or wedding memories with braces, just remove the aligner and wear it again after your celebration.
Invisalign Requires Computer Guided Technology
Not only is this technology more comfortable and better looking, but it is also more accurate. After taking the molds and impressions of your teeth, the laboratory will scan the molds and a specialized computer program will manufacture the customized aligners specifically for your treatment. This means no man-made errors and incredible accuracy for your treatment.
Not only that, but this computer generates a treatment plan video, which you can see before even starting the procedure. That way, you could see if the treatment outcome is to your satisfaction or if any adjustments are needed from your point of view. In other words “what you see is what you get.”
Ease of the Procedure
We asked our friend, Dr, Dennis Laurich, a dentist in Canton, MI, about Invisalign. Dr. Laurich says that traditional braces have a very complicated procedure and protocol. You would have to visit your dentist every couple of weeks for adjustments, but not with Invisalign. With Invisalign, all you have to do is switch out your aligner sets every few weeks or months.
Are there Drawbacks to Invisalign?
Surely this awesome technology has some drawbacks. First, Invisalign is not for everyone. You would have to be over 12 years old (so that all your baby teeth have fallen out and permanent teeth have come in) and the problem has to be the teeth and not innate in the bones. Second, it takes a bit more time than normal braces. For example, if normal braces could align your teeth in six months, Invisalign aligners could do it in eight. Finally, These aligners are made from strong plastic, but even that plastic could break at any time. However, the repair process is very simple.
